Hip jazz and original Soul/Pop. Backed by smooth guitar and a solid rhythm section, Flora captivates on lead vocals and keys. Her voice has been described as silky, seductive, powerful, yet intimate. Flora approaches music with a mature and sensuous touch that moves and delights listeners.

A veritable triple-threat, in acting, dance, and music, Flora has a magnetic pull on her audiences during her live shows. Drawing comparisons to Norah Jones, Sade, and Alicia Keys, this demonstrates the skill and ease with which she transitions between genres and showcases her own songs alongside time honored standards and current hits. Living in Vancouver, she regularly performs all over the city and throughout BC- winning new fans every time with her compelling stage presence and lustrous voice.

Described as a “sensuous little trip from the first song to the last”, her 2008 CD “Insight” was met with enthusiasm from critics and fans, and she’s been busy performing ever since. Working with co-producers Rick Kilburn and Peter Berring, “Insight” appeals to a wide audience with its groovy mix of standards and original music influenced by Latin jazz, and Soul/R&B. Over two years later, songs from that album continue to receive CBC airplay as well as community stations in BC and AB.

Flora was nominated for Best Jazz Artist of the Year by the BC Interior Music Awards in 2008. She was also awarded a touring grant from the Kootenay Cultural Alliance via the Columbia Basin Trust. In 2009 Flora was interviewed live and had her music featured on two CBC radio shows: Hot Air with Paul Grant, and North by Northwest with Sheryl McKay.

Concert highlights from 2010 were Flora’s performance at Edmonton’s prestigious Yardbird Suite in March, and at the Salmon Arm Roots & Blues in August. So far in 2011 Flora has been invited to play in the Okanagan and Shuswap four times: for the Vernon Jazz Society, Enderby & District Arts Council, Salmon Arm WOW Outdoor concert series, and Kamloops Arts Council for Canada Day.

Early in 2011 Flora was awarded a FACTOR Demo Recording Grant. Working with producer Doug Naugler (Kyprios, Sweatshop Union, Sherry St. Germaine), her new demo single “Precious Time” was shared exclusively to her fanlist in September 2011. Evolving her sound to match the Soul/Pop divas of the UK (Adele, Amy Winehouse), her new song was an instant hit, but will remain unreleased at this time. Flora is positioned to launch to greater heights in 2012 with new recordings as well as regional and national touring plans.
